Biography
Drummer Malcolm Allured began his musical career as a teenager and was a member of several English bands including the Hammers, the Choice, and Showaddywaddy. A combination of instruments such as drums, two bassists, and two guitars gave Showaddywaddy the label of "stereo band," a new sound in England at the time. Showaddywaddy earned the reputation of combining dance routines and pop/rock instrumentals. Their unique style and Allured's talented drumming abilities led to the group's success. All the groups Allured played in were successful and groundbreaking in England.

Born in 1945, Allured began his professional career with the Hammers. With a pop/rock sound, the band played in clubs and toured occasionally around England. In 1973, the Hammers and the Choice, another English band, were playing in the same pub. The two developed an admiration for each other's music and the new band Showaddywaddy was formed. With Bill Gask and Dave Bartram as the vocalists, Russ Field and Trevor Oaks on guitar, bassists Al James and Rod Deas, and drummers Allured and Romeo Challenger, the group began touring and recording.

Showaddywaddy combined instruments and dancing into their touring concerts, and with so many instrumentalists in the band, there was room for the members just to focus on dance routines. The group furthered its professional career by winning a TV talent show called New Faces. After its performance on the television show, the group's recognition grew. Record companies wanted the band to sign contracts and finally the group settled on Bell Records, which has also signed such music legends as the Bay City Rollers and Gary Glitter. Their first single on the label, Hey Rock 'n' Roll, was released in 1974. The hit reached number two on the U.K. charts. Showaddywaddy went on to place on the U.K. charts 22 times.

In 1984, after much success with the band, Allured left the group to enter the social arena as a publican. After several years in the social scene Allured returned to a musical career, and along with Showaddywaddy members Bill Gask and Ray Martinez, he joined the group the Teddys. The band mainly played in the town of Leicester, but occasionally toured throughout England. ~ Kim Summers, Rovi
