FunkinEven
from London, England
Biography
A producer seemingly inspired by George Clinton, Prince, Larry Heard, the Neptunes, Bugz in the Attic, and Sa-Ra in slightly varying amounts, FunkinEven -- born Steven Tony Julien in West London, England -- is one of the key artists associated with the revered Eglo label. He debuted on Eglo in November 2009 with the chunky "Kleer," a wholly modern synth-funk single featuring vocals from Fatima, a fellow patron of East London's Plastic People club. For the next several years, FunkinEven remained unpredictable, as he juggled inspirations while putting his own touch on each 12" release. Some of his most creative work can be heard on "Soul Glo" (a 2010 production for Fatima), the Roland's Jam 12" (Eglo, 2011), the Fatima collaboration Phoneline (Eglo, 2012), and Species (Broadwalk, 2013). He has also collaborated with Delroy Edwards and Kyle Hall (as FunkinEvil), remixed tracks by the likes of Ikonika and Ossie, and released additional productions on his Apron label. In January 2014, he released a three-track 12" of minimal synth and acid, under the name St. Julien, on Apron. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
